Last of the Summer Wine

In the past couple days it's been reported in the UK media that Last of the Summer Wine producer Alan Bell has stated that the 6 new episodes to be broadcast in August will be the end of the long running program. BBC announced June 2 that it has been cancelled and they do not intend to commission any further series.
There is a growing movement in the UK to pressure the BBC into funding a "proper goodbye" in the form of a Christmas Special.
You can express your opinion to the BBC by writing to Mark Thompson (Director General) at BBC TV CENTRE, WOOD LANE, LONDON W12 7RJ, UK or email him at mark.thompson@bbc.co.uk
The first episode of Last of the Summer Wine was a Comedy Playhouse program titled Of Funerals And Fish which aired 4 January 1973.
It would be completely disrespectful of the BBC to let something of such high stature to just fade away into the night, but I doubt many would be surpised if they did.
