Edgar Wallace Mysteries

Edgar Wallace "Mysteries" is a collection of 54 early 1960's crime-noir British B-movies made for the cinema and based on updated stories by Edgar Wallace. During those same years many of the films were edited for television anthology series including the Edgar Wallace Mystery Theatre in the USA. The files on these discs are the original full-length and uncropped films.

Australia with Simon Reeve + Caroline Quentin's National Parks + James Nesbitt's Ireland

Apologies to those in the Southern Hemisphere where Colin's trying to stay warm in Timaru, but for those in the Northern Hemisphere summer is here (unless you're where I am and it's almost always summer). In my younger days Summer meant (among other things) that it was time to do some travelling. Stuff full a soft sturdy bag with a good wide leather shoulder strap, put about $300 in a pocket, buy a plane ticket for a round trip flight across an ocean somewhere, hit the road for a few weeks and still get back home with money to spare. No big deal. No cell phones, no smart phones, no internet, no plans, no nothing.......nothing but a good time. Things change. Times change. B&B's are no longer a bargain, airlines are run by the secret police, a pint of bitter or stout is no longer a couple of small coins. Anyway......here's a chance to do some travelling from the comfort of your favorite chair without the risk of being strip searched because some pervert doesn't like the color of your socks.............

The Job Lot + Up The Women + Vicious

Some new comedy from the UK. A 3-for-1.

The Job Lot starring Sarah Hadland (Broken News, Moving Wallpaper, That Mitchell & Webb Look, Miranda, Waterloo Road Series 7, The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff), Russell Tovey (Little Dorrit, Gavin & Stacey, Being Human, Him & Her), Angela Curran (This Is Jinsy), Tony Maudsley (Eyes Down, The Wilsons, Benidorm, The Spa, Blandings), Jo Enright (Lab Rats, Ideal, Trollied, Life's Too Short), Tamla Kari (Cuckoo) and others. Sitcom takes place at a Job Centre (in the USA they used to call them the Unemployment Office).
The Job Lot

Up The Women is a 3-part comedy written by and starring Jessica Hynes (Asylum, Spaced, Bob & Rose, The Royle Family, According To Bex, One Night, Twenty Twelve) with Adrian Scarborough (A Dance to the Music of Time, Let Them Eat Cake, Psychoville, Gavin & Stacey, Cranford, Upstairs Downstairs, Mrs Biggs, Plebs, Miranda), Rebecca Front (The Day Today, Big Train, Time Gentlemen Please, Nighty Night, Grandma's House, The Thick Of It, Lewis, The Spa), Judy Parfitt (Call The Midwife, Little Dorrit, Funland, The Jewel in the Crown), Vicki Pepperdine (Getting On), Emma Pierson (Beast, Time Gentlemen Please, The Worst Week of My Life, Talk To Me, Little Dorrit, Dead Boss), Ryan Sampson (After You've Gone, Plebs). The sitcom is about a local suffragette chapter.

Vicious starring Ian McKellen (way too many to list) and Derek Jacobi (too many creds but well known for Cadfael, Mr Pye, The Pallisers, and recently in Last Tango In Halifax) with Frances de la Tour (Rising Damp, A Kind Of Living, Flickers, Harry Potter films) and Marcia Warren (No Place Like Home, Life of Riley, The Cafe). This is going to have a Christmas special at the end of the year.
Vicious

Speaking of Rebecca Front...........the Playhouse Presents episode Psychobitches has been developed into a 5 episode series and is currently airing on the Sky Arts channel Thursday evenings. It seems as though nobody on the planet is recording them. I have searched high and low. Unfortunately the one place I'd probably find them is a place I don't have access to. I never expect any feedback from this blog, but if anyone knows of any sources lets work something out. With a line up that includes Front, Catherine Tate, Sharon Horgan, Julia Davis, Katy Brand, Samantha Spiro, Sarah Solemani and Selina Griffiths.....this is something I'd like to see! If you're in the UK you may be able to download a web rip from the website.

Kath & Kim

For those of you that enjoy the excellent Australian comedy Kath & Kim, a few weeks ago I obtained the recent film Kath & Kimderella, the first appearance by K&K in some 5½ years. It doesn't fit on the 2 disks of the 2002 - 2007 TV series, but does on the 3rd disk of bonus material.

Lenny Henry 1980's update

Chris, in chilly Te Anau, New Zealand, kindly opened up his collection of old video tape recordings and provided not only the missing episode of The Lenny Henry Show, but also the earlier 3 series Lenny did for BBC with the exception of the first episode of his third series 'Tonite'. Chris also provided the missing 2 episodes of the Chris Barry sitcom A Prince Among Men and some other items I'm still sorting through. The first 2 series of the Lenny Henry Show were sketch shows and the musical guest segments were removed from these New Zealand broadcasts due to copyright licensing issues (I assume). I've never seen these available anywhere before, so it's much appreciated.
