No Job For A Lady update

No Job For A Lady is now complete and much improved. This excellent political comedy starred Penelope Keith (The Good Life, To The Manor Born, Executive Stress, Sweet Sixteen, Law And Disorder, Next Of Kin) and remains her favorite work. Similar to the wonderful Yes Minister, this was written by Alex Shearer (Chalk And Cheese, The Two Of Us, Law And Disorder) and also featured the late Garfield Morgan (The Sweeney, Shelley, You Must Be The Husband, The Nineteenth Hole), veteran Scottish character actor Paul Young (Tales Of Para Handy, The Last Salute, Still Game), George Baker in the first 12 eps (Bowler, I Claudius, DCI Wexford in the Ruth Rendell Mysteries) and Mark Kingston (Shine On Harvey Moon, The Bretts). Previously episode 11 was missing and the files were VHS conversions. All the files are now excellent quality which makes me wonder since eps 7-18 have not been on a DVD to the best of my knowledge. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Job_for_a_Lady

Home And Away - 2010 Disc 10

Home And Away reached the end of the current season today. It will be returning near the end of January for another year. I know there aren't many episodes on this disc, but I'm sure there are many faithful followers that would prefer not to wait until late February to catch the last 8 eps. What can you do?

Mumbai Calling + The Indian Doctor

Yup. Different genres, different decades, different networks.....so what does this 2-for-1 have in common? Sanjeev Bhaskar (Goodness Gracious Me, The Kumars At No. 42). Mumbai Calling was a sitcom while The Indian Doctor, broadcast this week (43½ minute episodes), is a period drama that takes place in Wales in the 1960's.

Reggie Perrin update

Reggie Perrin Series 2 concluded tonight. There is a lower budget feel to it compared to the first series, but that's not unusual these days (how about that last Doc Martin series?..talk about low budget!) Or perhaps the budget was the same but Martin Clunes and Fay Ripley got a larger piece of it? Alexander Armstrong (Life Begins, Armstrong & Miller) was added to the cast this series. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reggie_Perrin

Ladies Of Letters update

It all began in 1988 with one of Patricia Routledge's appearances on the television program Talking Heads. It was the episode A Lady Of Letters (!). Based on the series of books written by Lou Wakefield and Carole Hayman, a comedy radio program was produced 11 years later with Routledge (Keeping Up Appearances, Hetty Wainthropp Investigates) and Prunella Scales (Fawlty Towers, After Henry, Mapp & Lucia). The original radio program ran for 7 episodes and continued on for another 8 or so programs through 2009.
In 2009 a television sitcom adaptation was produced but with veteran comedy/drama actors Anne Reid and Maureen Lipman in the roles. (Keep in mind Prunella Scales is now 78 and Patricia Routledge is coming up on her 82nd birthday, Anne Reid is 75 while Lipman is just a kid of 64.) Four tremendous actors.
A second series of 10 episodes started back in April and with a 5 month hiatus in the middle concluded the other night.
In addition to the 20 TV episodes there are 26 radio shows from Ladies of Letters (1997), Go Global (2006), Say No (2007), Go Green (2008) and Crunch Credit (2009).

DCI Banks + The Little House + Thorne

DCI Banks: Aftermath was a 2-part ITV cop show starring Stephen Tompkinson (Drop The Dead Donkey, Ballykissangel, Wild At Heart, Ted & Alice, Preston Front, Grafters, Mr. Charity, Bedtime, Downwardly Mobile). There will be another edition in a year or so.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DCI_Banks

The Little House was a 2-part ITV drama
"adapted from the novel by Philippa Gregory about a young woman's psychological battle with her mother-in-law. Ruth's independent city life is turned upside down when she and her husband Patrick move into an isolated country cottage close to his parents. However, her subtly manipulative mother-in-law Elizabeth is always on hand to ease the tension, seizing every opportunity to take the child away to her own home. Starring: Francesca Annis, Tim Pigott-Smith, Rupert Evans, Lucy Griffiths, David Mallinson, Sam Hazeldine"

Then Churchill Said To Me

Then Churchill Said To Me was a Frankie Howerd comedy that was actually produced in 1982 but sat on a shelf someplace for 11 years before it was ever broadcast. More of the same in the Up Pompeii! and Whoops Baghdad vein. To fill out the disc there is also 3 episodes of Frankie Howerd from 1966. A one-off Thames special from 1968, the 1972 film Up The Front which is in the Carry On tradition, the pilot episode of the Heroes of Comedy program and the Frankie Howerd episode from "The Unforgettable" series.
