It all began in 1988 with one of Patricia Routledge's appearances on the television program Talking Heads. It was the episode A Lady Of Letters (!). Based on the series of books written by Lou Wakefield and Carole Hayman, a comedy radio program was produced 11 years later with Routledge (Keeping Up Appearances, Hetty Wainthropp Investigates) and Prunella Scales (Fawlty Towers, After Henry, Mapp & Lucia). The original radio program ran for 7 episodes and continued on for another 8 or so programs through 2009.
In 2009 a television sitcom adaptation was produced but with veteran comedy/drama actors Anne Reid and Maureen Lipman in the roles. (Keep in mind Prunella Scales is now 78 and Patricia Routledge is coming up on her 82nd birthday, Anne Reid is 75 while Lipman is just a kid of 64.) Four tremendous actors.
A second series of 10 episodes started back in April and with a 5 month hiatus in the middle concluded the other night.
In addition to the 20 TV episodes there are 26 radio shows from Ladies of Letters (1997), Go Global (2006), Say No (2007), Go Green (2008) and Crunch Credit (2009).
