Taking a break

Yes, even those of us that live just down the street from places like this, need to take a break from time to time. I'll be back at it by late Tuesday afternoon Oct. 8 and will have the new Breaking Bad, New Tricks and Hell On Wheels disks ready to roll, two new Australian comedies: It's A Date and Upper Middle Bogan will be hot off the burner. I've been watching Bogan and it's really good, but being created, written, directed, produced etc. by husband/wife team Robyn Butler and Wayne Hope, you'd expect that. Some new British comedies, Chickens and Badults, are ready to go. A second series of Bad Education should be wrapping up around the time I get back as will new comedies Pat & Cabbage and Big Bad World which are both pretty good. I'll also have some new old stuff available and may be posting some of it here in the meantime.

Ray Donovan

There's a short glitch near the start of the 5th episode when they do their "previously on" bit for those with short attention spans. I've checked every file in every format I could find and they all have it.
Does anyone that reads this blog, besides me, have a clue about the title of the 11th episode?

Super City II

Super City returned for a second series of 8 episodes and different characters than the first series. This clever New Zealand comedy sketch show is similar in format to the Catherine Tate Show with Madeleine Sami playing each of the four characters for segments of each episode.

Burying Brian, a 2008 comedy-drama from New Zealand, is not new here.

One By One

Eccles Cake Ken dug up this rare 1980's BBC drama from someone's video tapes. It takes place from the 1950's to the 1970's and is based on the life stories of zoo veterinarian David Taylor. Complete 32 50-minute episodes. I noticed a number of episodes are written by Johnny Byrne who also wrote many episodes for All Creatures Great and Small in the 80's.

The IT Crowd returns

We last saw The IT Crowd over three years ago. Certainly one the best and most popular British sitcoms of this century to date, it will be returning for a one-hour 25th and final episode Friday night.

Pauline's Quirkes

Pauline's Quirkes is a 1976 comedy sketch show featuring the then teenager Pauline Quirke along with some involvement of her childhood friend and Birds of a Feather co-star Linda Robson. The show was aimed at the teen market of some 40 years ago and I really don't know what to do with these so I'm going to place them on the final disk of Birds of a Feather. A show she was involved in prior to this, called You Must Be Joking, is available and if the show that followed Quirkes, Pauline's People, ever becomes available perhaps I'll put the 3 of them on a disk, but for now.......
Pauline Quirke

Speaking of Birds of a Feather - it has been announced that Birds is returning with a new series early next year, some 15 years since the last one.

A Touch Of Cloth + Big School + Count Arthur Strong

Some recent comedy:

A Touch of Cloth is a comedy police investigative parody - the title obviously taking aim at A Touch of Frost. This will be returning in the future with at least one more 2-parter as it's been reported that it has already been produced.
A Touch of Cloth

Big School is co-written by and co-stars David Walliams along with an impressive cast that includes Catherine Tate, Philip Glenister, Frances de la Tour, Steve Speirs and Joanna Scanlan with Julie T. Wallace.
Big School

Count Arthur Strong is co-written by and stars Steve Delaney as Arthur. The other co-writer is Graham Linehan of Father Ted, Black Books, The IT Crowd fame and it also stars Rory Kinnear
among others. Based on the long running radio program of the same name. When I started watching this I wasn't expecting much, but this one has some good laughs in it and it will be returning next year for another 7 episodes.

The Guilty + What Remains + Without You

Two new mini-series:

The Guilty is a drama series which sees lives being torn apart after a young child goes missing. The series is set across two timelines, 2008 and the present as it tells the story of DC Maggie Brand (played by Tamson Grieg) who investigates the disappearance of Callum Reid whilst attempting to deal with her own young son’s medical diagnosis with autism. Callum's parents are played by Darren Boyd and Katherine Kelly.

What Remains is a new 4-part mystery drama serial. Anyone I know that has been watching this has said they enjoyed it.
What Remains

Without You is a 3-part mystery-drama serial from almost two years ago that was originally paired with Top Boy series 1. Scroll down the IMDB page for a decent review, but be aware that it does contain spoilers. The reviewer wrote "Over all I was pleased that I had decided to watch this, it passed the time nicely, providing a good mystery and some tense moments."

Holding The Fort

Holding The Fort is an early 80's British sitcom starring Peter Davison, Patricia Hodge and Matthew Kelly. Davison was a busy man at that time not only starring in this one but also Sink Or Swim and Doctor Who with his role in All Creatures Great And Small on hiatus. Hodge preceded Holding The Fort in Rumpole of the Bailey and The Other 'Arf and followed it up starring in Jemima Shore Investigates. More recently she's been featured in Miranda as Miranda's mother and will be in the next forthcoming Poirot episode called The Big Four. Davison has been appearing in a minor role in some episodes of the current sitcom Pat And Cabbage.

Housos

Canada has Trailer Park Boys, Britain has Shameless, Ireland has Hardy Bucks and in Australia it's Housos. Here's Series 1 and 2 of the comedy satire parody about the 'socially elite' in the fictional Sydney suburb of Sunnyvale. Most of the cast were also in Swift and Shift Couriers. About a year ago a Housos film was released, Housos vs. Authority, but it won't fit on this disk so it will have to go on a Smorg.

Top Boy

Top Boy returned for a second series. Originally paired up with the 2011 3-part drama-mystery Without You, it now requires a disk of its own. Top Boy is a crime-drama that deals with urban thug life in modern gun-free Britain.....theft, gangs, drugs, violent crime.
Top Boy

Vera

Vera has returned for a third series of 4 new feature-length episodes (9 - 12 on Disc 2). I did some tweaking on the third episode and managed to fit all the eps to date onto 2 disks. Vera stars Brenda Blethyn as detective chief inspector Vera Stanhope on the case somewhere in England (where they never let the police retire?). Vera will be returning next year with 4 new episodes.

Hawaii Five-O

It's been about 10 months since I posted anything on the old US TV blog, so I'm sure it's been forgotten about by now - which is why I'm posting this here as well.
