Barking + Bellamy's People + Harry & Paul Series 4

Comedy odds and sods.......but all linked together somehow.

Barking is a 1998 comedy sketch show featuring Catherine Tate, Mackenzie Crook, Omid Djalili, Peter Kaye, Dave Lamb, David Walliams, Rhys Thomas, and Marcus Brigstocke all in their early days.
Barking

I've been sitting on Bellamy's People for almost 3 years now looking for something to do with it. A comedy spoof/satire with Rhys Thomas, Paul Whitehouse, longtime Whitehouse & Harry Enfield associate Charlie Higson, Amelia Bullmore (now starring in Scott & Bailey), Rhys Thomas's wife and sketch show veteran Lucy Montgomery, Simon Day (The Fast Show, Grass), Adil Ray (Citizen Khan), and others.....
Bellamy's People

Harry Enfield & Paul Whitehouse were back with a fourth series of Harry & Paul.

Smörgåsbord - Disc 45

Smörgåsbord 45..........a few new TV movies and filled out by a couple of recent British films.

Doors Open
"Bored millionaire Mike Mackenzie is a man with a broken heart and too much time on his hands. Incensed by wealthy patrons hiding works of art away in private collections, he and two close friends - a professor and a banker - devise a plot to swap priceless masterpieces stored in a gallery's warehouse with near-perfect forgeries. If successful, Mike will save the paintings and might just win back the love of his life, auctioneer Laura Stanton, who left him five years earlier. Thriller based on the book by Ian Rankin, starring Douglas Henshall, Stephen Fry, Kenneth Collard, Lenora Crichlow and Brian McCardie."

Restless
"Young graduate Ruth Gilmartin is shocked when her mother Sally reveals details of her early life as Russian emigre Eva Delectorskaya, recruited by the British Secret Service during the Second World War. Although nearly 40 years have elapsed since then, the former agent believes that missions undertaken during the conflict on behalf of her spymaster - and lover - Lucas Romer have served to place her life in danger. A two-part dramatisation of William Boyd's acclaimed espionage thriller, starring Hayley Atwell and Rufus Sewell, with Michael Gambon, Michelle Dockery and Charlotte Rampling."

The Making Of A Lady
"Period drama based on Frances Hodgson Burnett's romantic novel The Making of a Marchioness. Impoverished Emily marries her employer's wealthy, widowed nephew Lord Walderhurst for money, rather than love, and the pair move from London to his stately home. Their relationship begins to blossom, but Walderhurst's staff are suspicious of their new lady and her life is put in danger when she fosters a friendship with her husband's nephew and his Indian wife. Starring Lydia Wilson, Linus Roache, Joanna Lumley and James D'Arcy."

wrapping up the holiday

For those outside the UK, Call The Midwife returned Christmas night to start its second series which will begin airing soon. For the 4th time in the past 5 years, The Royle Family returned once again for a Christmas night special - very nicely dedicated to the memory of Geoffrey Hughes. Outnumbered returned for a special and reportedly is coming back for another series sometime next year. It was great to see Susannah Doyle again although her appearance was somewhat limited. Mark Heap was in both the Friday Night Dinner and Outnumbered specials playing a strange neighbor (a regular role for him on Friday Night Dinner). After an absence of 2 years, Miranda has returned starting off her new series with a Christmas episode tonight. Trollied officially ended its second series with a double-length special and Mrs. Brown's Boys has returned starting off the third    series with Christmas specials tonight and Christmas Eve and another 6 episodes to follow. There was also the 90 minute Downton Abbey special and also Doctor Who which will be resuming its current series in April. Him & Her ended its 3rd series with a Christmas episode and Mount Pleasant also returned to end its second series with a special Christmas episode. All of these are available.

Friday Night Dinner special

The sitcom Friday Night Dinner aired a Christmas Special episode tonight. As with Downton Abbey, when the second series ended about 5 weeks ago there was no indication that there was going to be an upcoming special, so my apologies to a few of you. Pam on the Florida east coast, Paul on the Florida west coast, Stu in sunny Southampton-by-the-Sea, James in jolly Texas and Tucson Tim....next time you're in touch remind me and I'll find a spot for the special.

Holiday TV

Apologies to those anxious Downton Abbey viewers. It appears there is going to be a feature-length special episode on Christmas....something that was still kept under wraps at the end of the last series. Sorry. Looks like there is also going to be a Friday Night Dinner Christmas special. Sorry. There is also going to be a Trollied Christmas special as well as two Mrs. Brown's Boys - one Christmas Eve and the other on Boxing Day. New Year's Eve will kick off the new Mrs. Brown's Boys series of 6 episodes. Spy is ending its second series with a one-hour special on Boxing  Day. Mount Pleasant is returning with a Christmas special on Sunday night. They'll be the usual Doctor Who Christmas special and Sky has already starting airing a new series of Little Crackers. Joanna Lumley, Rebecca Front, Tommy Tiernan and Caroline Quentin have already had their Little Crackers aired. The rest will follow this week Mon. - Thurs. nights According to various media reports, Call The Midwife, Outnumbered and Miranda (actually 1st episode of a new series) are also having Christmas specials and the Royle Family is returning again for a special called "Barbara's Old Ring".....wonder if Barbara's new 25-years-younger appearance will excite Jim enough to get him out of that chair? Or to bathe? Also coming up on Dec. 30 is the 2-hour final episode of Wild At Heart, concluding that popular show.

Clive Dunn 1920-2012

I've been a bit lazy lately when it comes to checking in with the news. Sometimes readers in the UK tip me off with what's going on, sometimes I miss the boat completely. Dad's Army is one of the most popular British sitcoms ever here in the USA and one of the few surviving cast members, Clive Dunn, passed away about a month ago at the age of 92. In addition to Dad's Army, Clive is also remembered for his roles in Bootsie & Snudge and My Old Man and many guest appearances.

The Larkins - Disc 3

The Larkins was originally aired from 1958 to 1960. The sitcom returned a few years later for two more series in a different setting, the café Alf and Ada purchased. Still starring Peggy Mount and David Kossoff with Barbara Mitchell and a bunch of new faces as the café customers.
