The Canadian drama serial Bomb Girls was unexpectedly cancelled about about a year ago without giving the creators and writers the opportunity to bring the story to a close, so a new, 90-minute episode, Facing The Enemy, was produced to end the story.

Ruth Jones and friends are back with a third series of her comedy-drama Stella. Stella is a blonde now, a nursing student, and, of course, all the dashing young men still have the hots for her. Why not? She can iron, she can drink and she can f.......................sorry, lost my train of thought. I forgot what I was typing. Anyway, as with past series, people come and people go. Deddie Davies and her donkey are back across the street this series. Elizabeth Berrington, Owen Teale and Julian Lewis Jones (except for the 10th episode) sat this one out while Steve Spiers was given a lot more face time.

Doll & Em + Inside No. 9

Two new comedies - both a bit more interesting than the standard fare thrown at us.

Doll & Em was created by, written by and stars lifelong friends Dolly Wells and Emily Mortimer as themselves. It's a bit mundane, but in that sense is also quite believable. Almost anything not written by a roomful of gag writers seems refreshing to me.

Inside No. 9 is a new one from Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith (League of Gentlemen, Psychoville). Probably no need to identify this as black comedy.

Salamander

Salamander is a thriller crime serial from Belgium. I had this as HD .mkv files for about a year, but they wouldn't convert to .avi without the audio progressively going out of sync as the files played.
Then I was able to get .mp4 files that would convert alright, except for episodes 5 & 6. Finally, different .mp4 files of those two episodes were obtained that converted without audio problems. Nearly all the dialogue is in standard Flemish with hard-coded English subtitles. The subtitles are nice and bold and the dialogue is not particularly fast and heavy.

Mystery drama Jonathan Creek, which made its debut nearly 17 years ago and has appeared only with a few feature-length specials in the past decade, has returned with a 5th series of 3 one hour episodes. Jonathan's female collaborator is now played by Sarah Alexander and, as usual, each episode features several well-known guest stars.
