Smörgåsbord - Disc 35

A few things from the holiday season.

Endeavor is a prequel to Inspector Morse. Set in 1965 it stars Shaun Evans as the young Dectective Constable Morse.

Fast Freddie, The Widow And Me is a holiday story. Wiki spells it out. Nice to see Ann Beach with a small role in this. 50+ years ago she was one of the ladies in the early episodes of The Rag Trade and 25+ years ago was familiar as "It's only Sonia" in Fresh Fields. Also spotted Judy Flynn who was great in First of the Summer Wine and The Brittas Empire.

Hacks is a movie written by Guy Jenkin (who lately has been writing Outnumbered with Andy Hamilton) and this seems to be sort of an updated look at his excellent 90's comedy Drop The Dead Donkey.

The Bleak Old Shop Of Stuff will eventually be a 4-part series, but it started off recently with an hour long Christmas special and there's no word yet when the other three 30 min. episodes are airing. There was space on this disc so here it is. This is a comic take on Dickens with an all-star cast including Robert Webb and David Mitchell of Peep Show / Mitchell & Webb fame, Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd, Doc Martin, Fear Stress & Anger, The Old Guys, Whites), Stephen Fry (too many creds), Celia Imrie (too many creds), Pauline McLynn (Father Ted, Jam & Jerusalem), Johnny Vegas.....appearances by Una Stubbs, Judy Parfitt, Phyllida Law, and so on.

Young James Herriot is a recent 3-part piece about James Herriot (of All Creatures Great And Small fame) during his university years.
