"5 part adaptation of Ann Oakley's novel of a love affair spanning the Thatcher years and beyond. Ann Oakley has written numerous works, of which the best-known is probably The Men's Room, which was adapted by Laura Lamson for BBC television in 1991, and which starred Harriet Walter and Bill Nighy.
Despite her status as wife and mother, Charity entered into a romantic liaison with a her sociology professor and doctorate-examiner Mark Carleton (Bill Nighy). The ensuing consequences not only exacted a great emotional toll on Charity, her husband, her lover, and his wife, but also exposed the hypocrisies of the good-old-boy office mentality. The five 50-minute episodes of The Men's Room were telecast by BBC2 in 1991."
