Underbelly is a controversial Australian crime drama based on real events. Series 1 (the first 13 episodes) concern the Melbourne drug wars of 1995-2004. Series 2 (episodes 14-26) is a prequel to Series 1 and is about events that transpired in Melbourne and Sydney from 1976 to 1987. This is sometimes called the "Australian Sopranos". I've never seen the Sopranos (not really into opera) so I wouldn't know. Colin in New Zealand made a great effort to provide this one.
