Bachelors Walk
Bachelors Walk was a popular Irish comedy-drama back in the early years of the current century. It ran for 20 episodes and then was brought back a few years later for a Christmas special (actually a St. Stephen's Day special in Ireland which is the same as Boxing Day in the UK and here in the US is called The Day After Christmas....or something like that...also known as December 26th.....this year it will be called Saturday) to give it some closure and a proper send-off.
Starring Don Wycherley, who outside of Ireland is probably best known for being Father Cyril McDuff in four episodes of Father Ted and as Father Aidan O'Connell in 24 episodes of Ballykissangel. Since then he seems to have appeared in mostly Irish-language programs although he did appear in two recent episodes of Moone Boy.
Also starring Simon Delaney (Pulling Moves, Father And Son, The Fall, Moone Boy and appeared in the latest series of Trollied as the nutty owner of the Valco Supermarket chain).
Also starring Keith McErlean and Marcella Plunkett.
Series 1 was released on DVD in wide screen format even though Ireland didn't go wide screen until about 10 years ago. The other episodes are from terrestrial broadcast recordings on video tape and at times the signal goes wonky for a bit. I spent a lot of time trying to improve the digital transfers, which were not done very well at all. It is what it is and as far as this show goes, it's all there is. Know what I mean?
The soundtrack of the show included a lot of music and that may be preventing DVD releases as the licensing of music for TV broadcasts is similar to a radio station playing a song, but issuing it on DVD gets very legally complicated and expensive. A problem John Sullivan shows like Only Fools And Horses and Just Good Friends ran into.
What the Hell Happened To Bachelors Walk?
