more on shipping
I just got in some 5-inch cube boxes that I can squeeze about 72 disks into. My cost of shipping that to Australia, New Zealand, the UK and EU countries is about $37. Cost of shipping to Canada is about $27. But here's the catch: customs. I can't put actual value on the customs form unless you want to pay a duty on the package. I don't mind that, but if the box disappears en route I'm not going to take the hit. Nearly $350. You see, there's always a catch. I receive complaints on the shipping, especially from Australia, from people claiming I can ship dozens of disks for not much more. True, but who is accepting responsibility for the package arriving? Not me.
Shipping Changes
Yesterday, here in the US, new postage rates went into effect, however the changes aren't quite as dramatic as they were a year ago. As with last year, it looks like Canada had the biggest increase, but even that wasn't much of a change. So....posted below are the new rates.

Old Jack's Boat
Old Jack's Boat is a show for young kids that aired last winter. Starring Bernard Cribbins, Janine Dutvitski, Helen Lederer, etc. No, I'm not branching out. I was impressed with the quality and put this together for someone. If you have kids in the house around 4 to 6 years old they may enjoy this. Some of the episodes are on youtube, so you can check it out. They're all about 14 minutes in length.

Father Brown - Disc 2
The detective drama Father Brown, starring Mark Williams, returned for a second series.

Roger Lloyd-Pack 1944 - 2014
Roger Lloyd-Pack has died. Roger will be long remembered for several of his well-known roles. From Trigger in Only Fools and Horses to Owen Newitt in Vicar of Dibley to Tom in The Old Guys and dozens of roles in shorter series and guest appearances. He was most recently featured in a series of The Borgias. Even the BBC story linked below mentions his first television appearance (uncredited and without dialogue) in 1965 in an episode of The Avengers, but I don't think that was Roger. Looks like a much older and heavier man, closer to how he looked above in last year's Vicar of Dibley Comic Relief special, than how he looked a few years later when he appeared in Virgin of the Secret Service, still boyish and thin. You be the judge.

Major Crimes - Disc 3
The network was pleased enough with this show when the second season ended last summer that they ordered 8 more episodes.

Sherlock - Series 3
Sherlock
Quite a family affair this time around. Freeman got his wife a starring role, Cumberbatch got his mom and dad to play his mom and dad.....of course it helps when they're all well-known actors anyway.
Looking back at 2013
A few quick updates for those outside the UK. The new series of Sherlock ends tonight. The Bletchley Circle has returned with a 4-episode second series. The popular Death In Paradise kicks off its 3rd series Tuesday night. Father Brown will be ending its second series of 10 episodes at the end of this week. Benidorm has returned for its 6th series. The big Danish/Swedish crime series The Bridge returned for a second series and the episodes with hard-coded English subtitles are trickling in. Silent Witness is currently airing its 17th series. And, after being on hiatus for over 15 years, the comedy Birds of a Feather has returned with a new series....this time on ITV as BBC wouldn't touch it because, according to one report, it had no gay or minority characters.
Also, Mad Dogs returned with a final 2-episode series. The two episodes will not fit on the Mad Dogs disk, but I have them.

I get e-mails all the time asking me if I have this or that, so here's a list of TV shows that made their debut during the past year (a few of which had pilots that aired before 2013, but are included here). These are "new in 2013" only.

About Time
Beaconsfield
The 7.39
Carl Matthews is happily married with two
teenage kids - but he also feels stuck in a rut. As he waits on the
platform for the daily commute into Waterloo, he realises his life has
become predictable. Sally Thorn has recently moved out of London, where
she still works as the manager of a West End health club. But she's
unsure if she likes her new suburban life - or the prospect of marriage
to personal trainer Ryan. So when a fight over a seat on the 7.39 train
leads Carl and Sally to start talking, there's a spark between the pair -
and suddenly their daily journeys become a whole lot more interesting. Having become close friends on their daily
commute, Carl and Sally are forced to fight their feelings for one
another, fully aware that the repercussions of a full-blown affair would
be life-changing for both of them. And yet despite their best
intentions, it seems they simply can't help falling in love. David Morrissey and Sheridan Smith star in this two-part romantic drama,
with Olivia Colman and Sean Maguire.

Someone should have told director Alrick Riley that people on Nantucket don't talk with a California accent.
