The Grand
Thought I had posted this about a year and a half ago, but looks like I never did.
The Grand was a drama centered about a posh hotel in Manchester in the 1920's. Written by Russell T. Davies (who has so many successful credits I'm not going to list them) and starring Susan Hampshire (The Forsyte Saga, Vanity Fair, The First Churchills, The Pallisers, The Barchester Chronicles, Monarch of the Glen + a film career of over 50 years), Julia St. John (The Brittas Empire, Gone to the Dogs, The Blackheath Poisonings, The Glass, A Touch of Frost, frequently appears in Casualty episodes), Tim Healy (A Kind of Living, Boys from the Bush, Common As Muck, Heartburn Hotel, Catterick, Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Dead Man Weds, Waterloo Road, Benidorm), Michael Siberry (Under The Hammer).

Cambridge Spies
Cambridge Spies is a historical drama about the "Cambridge Five" Soviet spy ring that operated inside Cambridge from 1934 to 1951. Starring Tom Hollander, Toby Stephens, Samuel West and Rupert Penry-Jones.
Cambridge Spies
Also on the disc is the Irish drama Legend which I placed on a disc with Mrs Brown's Boys some time ago. Since then Mrs Brown has moved on to her own discs.
Legend is a drama about 3 families. Someone contributed this to IMDB:
Notwithstanding the epidemic of sitcoms today that try to balance the drama of crime and family, Legend emerges as an incredibly fresh yet genuinely touching experience. I knew nothing about the show and almost as much about Irish television (Radio Telefís Éireann), yet this program stands shoulder to shoulder with the giant enterprises of American cable. The writing, the acting, the cinematography and the music are brilliantly combined, creating an artistic and relevant atmosphere easily equal to some of my favorites like Showtime's Brotherhood or Weeds or HBO's The Sopranos. Yet the show lacks all of the dramatic pretension that has become a prerequisite for American primetime. "Legend" even surpasses other television shows with its gritty yet beautiful realism. The premise of a middle-class young father losing his loving wife, falling into financial difficulties with some less than reputable characters and having to care for his children, could so easily fizzle into a myriad of clichés. However, within this deflated modern Irish suburbia, every character is developed into beautiful contextual nexus of what it means to be young and struggling with life and death today. I was really blown away with the series and I hope the generic title of the show will not bury this gem in obscurity.

Darren Boyd, Olivia Williams, Peter Wight and Ralph Ineson recently returned for another 2-part episode of the crime thriller Case Sensitive called The Other Half Lives. Not sure if this is supposed to be an annual thing or what....very little info about it, but that closes out this disc.

Twenty Twelve
Twenty Twelve is a comedy/mockumentary about organizing the 2012 Olympics that are about to kick off in London. Starring Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey, The Silence, Bonekickers, Hunter, Five Days, The Robinsons, The Cazalets, Get Well Soon, Married For Life, etc), Jessica Hynes (The Royle Family, According To Bex, Spaced, Asylum, Bob & Rose, One Night, etc.), Amelia Bullmore (Sherlock, Scott & Bailey, Suburban Shootout, Ashes To Ashes, State of Play, Coronation Street, Big Train, Jam, I'm Alan Partridge, etc.), Olivia Coleman (Rev., Peep Show, Green Wing, Mitchell & Webb Situation, Bruiser, Beautiful People, great job in the film Tyrannosaur, guest appearances on about every show that was any good), Vincent Franklin (The Thick of It, Grandma's House, pops up in Doc Martin every now and then and a lot of other shows), Karl Theobald (Green Wing, Primeval), Morven Christie (Monday Monday, Sirens, Sinking of the Laconia). Looks like a very solid cast. Since I'm not much interested in watching the 'pics, I think I'll watch this instead.

Mr. Rose - Disc 1
Mr. Rose was an investigation drama starring William Mervyn (perhaps best remembered as Bishop Hever in All Gas and Gaiters). Hopefully, I'll have a second disc available sometime in the Autumn.
Mr. Rose was the third program in a trilogy aired by Granada in the 60's, all with Mervyn as Mr. Rose. The first was The Odd Man when Mr Rose was still employed as Chief Inspector Rose. That was followed by It's Dark Outside and finally Mr. Rose where he is retired and attempting to write his memoirs but constantly finds himself drawn into private investigative work. 24 episodes were produced in total during 1967-1968.

Dead Boss
In the past couple of days I've had a few people ask me about the new Sharon Horgan comedy Dead Boss. The way that ended the other night I would say there is no doubt that it will be returning for another series at some point. I'll put it on a disc with the new Kathy Burke comedy Walking and Talking (a spinoff of her Little Crackers episode Better Than Christmas {see below}) and Parents (new comedy with Sally Phillips) when that show ends 3 August.

Offspring, the popular Australian comedy-drama, returned for a third series.
Word is it will be returning next year for a fourth and a fifth series in two years.

Those of you that enjoyed Winners and Losers a year or so ago, the first 11 episodes of the second series will be available around 4 September.

The Howerd Confessions + Then Churchill Said To Me
A double dose of Frankie Howerd. The Howerd Confessions...can't really find any websites that offer much information on this. It's Frankie and Joan Sims doing sketches supposedly based on some of Frankie's past experiences. Those that enjoy 70's British comedy will see a lot of familiar faces in this. Then Churchill Said To Me was a comedy that takes place in the British command bunker deep below London during WWII. Frankie plays a role similar to that in Up Pompeii! Filmed in 1982, it wasn't aired until 1993 for some reason.

Little Crackers + 10 Minute Tales
A few years ago, just before the end-of-year holidays, Sky began airing a series of short films called 10 Minute Tales featuring some well-known actors (Timothy Spall, Stephen Mangan, Liza Tarbuck, Mackenzie Crook, Julia Davis, Lyndsey Marshal, Angela Griffin, Bill Nighy, Claire Foy, Peter Capaldi, Elizabeth McGovern). As I recall, that first year they all had a holiday theme to them....some quite touching and others good comedy. The next year they changed the name to Little Crackers and they featured supposed childhood memories of various actors, some concerning Christmas, some not. One memorable film is Dawn French's Operation: Big Hat which is a true story from her early childhood when her family was chosen to host a quick military base visit by the Queen Mother. The end of the film features an actual color home movie of the event.

The Graham Norton Show - Series 11
Graham was back again with another energetic series of chat and humor. The 13th episode is not found here because it would have meant two discs instead of one and that 13th episode was just a compilation show from the best bits found on these 12 eps. Below is the wiki lists of guests.
